Why Do I Need MSHA New Miner (Part 46) Training?
In line with regulations, anyone who is beginning employment who is not an experienced miner must receive training before a new miner begins work at the mine. This includes anyone engaged in shell dredging or employed at sand, gravel, surface stone, surface clay, colloidal phosphate, surface limestone, marble, granite, sandstone, slate, shale, traprock, kaolin, cement, feldspar, and lime mines. Construction workers, independent contractors and employees of independent contractors who are exposed to the hazards of mining operations must also receive training prior to working at the mine.
Experienced miners must receive annual refresher training that addresses changes at the mine that could affect the miner’s health and safety. Refresher training must also include specific health and safety subjects that are relevant to mining operations at the mine.
During this training, we will provide you with a general understanding of the safety principles for each topic included in this course. However, while this training provides general awareness of the topics discussed, we do not cover each topic to their full extent. If you are assigned to a new task in which you have no previous work experience or training, you will need to take a full training course for each separate topic.
Please note that once you complete this training course, you will receive a certificate of completion. You must then fill out the MSHA New Miner Training Record/Certificate or Annual Refresher Training Record/Certificate forms.
