What’s in the Lattice Boom Crane Training Course?

Our Lattice Boom truck safety training course is regulation-aligned, and our online version fulfills OSHA’s classroom training requirement. Each class contains sections on anatomy, stability, rigging, safe operations, common hazards, and more.

This presentation includes intermittent practice quiz questions to prepare for the final written exam included with the course. In addition to the written exam, this course also includes a checklist for employers to use when administering a practical exam as required.

While this training encompasses many important safety standards, you will still need to familiarize yourself with any other federal, state, and local standards that apply to your specific workplace.

Why Do I Need Lattice Boom Crane Safety Training?

In line with regulations, anyone who operates heavy equipment must receive training prior to operating the machine on their own. The requirements for refresher training related to forklifts or other processes are very specific. Most other equipment doesn’t have such specific requirements, but it’s wise to follow the same guidelines.

When it comes to refresher training, the standards in some instances (like forklifts) are very specific: operators must be re-evaluated every three years to see if they are still competent to operate the equipment. Best practices say to apply this same rule to all types of equipment. A so-called “free-pass” cannot be awarded based on experience, age, or time on the job. The extent of the evaluation is to be determined by the employer, but should include a written and practical examination that proves continued competency.

The main causes of employee deaths relating to cranes include electrocution and stuck by crane parts or loads. Proper training and adherence to safety principles decreases the likelihood of serious injuries or fatalities on the job.

How do you prevent crane accidents?

    arrow icon

Following established safety principles and following regulations helps. Also following manufacturer guidelines for your crane and equipment is vital. Some of these safety practices include never exceeding the load capacity for your equipment, properly placing and centering the load, and using signalers.

How often does OSHA require inspections on cranes?

    arrow icon

Certain inspections need to be performed at every shift where the crane is in operation to maintain the safety of the employees during the shift. However, more comprehensive, and officially documented inspections need to be performed at least once a year. Sometimes these inspections will need to occur more frequently based on crane usage and manufacturer guidelines.
