Frequently Asked Questions
What is the importance of hearing conservation?
Hearing conservation and hearing conservation programs are vitally important because they are the key to preventing noise-induced injuries and total loss of hearing.
What should a hearing conservation program include?
A hearing conservation program should consist of the following topics: hazard identification, sound monitoring and testing, personal protective equipment, training and education, record keeping and communication, follow up procedures, and continuous monitoring and improving.
Why does effective hearing conversation go beyond hearing protection?
A hearing conservation program provides greater safety instruction for when hearing protection is not used, or broken. For example, the effectiveness of hearing protection is greatly reduced if the hearing protection: does not fit properly, is not inserted, is not worn correctly, or is only worn periodically.
What level of noise is harmful?
Any noise above 70dB over a prolonged period will start to damage you hearing.
Is noise the only thing that can cause hearing loss?
Hearing loss can occur in ways other than overexposure to noise. Accidents that involve trauma to the head, electric shocks, and even exposure to certain chemicals can result in auditory damage as well.
